Much of it is helpful, interesting, and informative, but this book is all of that and so much more. In my opinion, the author has succeeded in making the book both user-friendly and quite advanced. That, in itself, is a commendable feat. It's truly a one-stop-shop for anyone who wants to leverage their presence and profile on LinkedIn. But if you are a LinkedIn beginner, or want to be sure you are getting a thorough introduction to the biggest networking tool ever, this book is a good place to start.You will know enough after reading this to help yourself find contacts and network like a pro, and you'll even be able to help your social media resistant friends get on LinkedIn.What I liked most about this book:1) The monthly action plan laid out at the end, complete with weekly tasks. Its well laid out enough that you could almost just type it into your Outlook or tasks calendar.2) That the author starts with the most important part of a profile, describes how it works and how to set yours up, and then gives you a couple of things to do. I have completed most of the to dos suggested throughout the book. It was painless, and possibly even a little bit fun. And I hate networking.So why no five stars? Honestly, the five stars are meant for books we "love," and though this was good enough to get me to use LinkedIn with confidence, I did not love the book. Did I mention I hate networking? I like this book as much as possible, considering its about a subject that I would like to ignore.
This is a fast paced, yet very complete book full of practical ways to use all the key features of LinkedIn. Newbies can learn how to dive in, while power users an pick up on areas they can take better advantage of.
Good Read
I recently attended a seminar that Wayne was one of the speakers at. Conveniently just before that I had logged onto LinkedIn for the first time. I honestly thought when he talked about his book he was another snake oil salesman just out to make a buck. I was wrong. He told us that he designed the book to be read on a flight to Dallas. I didn't take the flight but I was able to read the book in just over two days, with three kids in the house that is an accomplishment. The short read doesn't mean the book is lacking in content at all. In fact you could liken it to making juice from concentrate; it's all in there ready for you and not watered down. Each chapter I found myself going back to my profile and updating it with something new. I can't speak to the full pay out of the book yet as I just finished it ten minutes ago, but I can speak to the potential. By following the steps and leveraging the contacts you already have this will become an invaluable tool for anyone. I look forward to the weekly updates from Wayne and I look forward to the new contacts to my network the steps in this book will add. And I know those contacts will lead to new business for me in the future. My best advice for anyone who buys this book would be to lock yourself in your office for a couple days to read the book, take notes, dog ear some pages and keep your profile up so you can update it section by section as you go.
