These two maps in one are excellent and up to date for these areas. We used our GPS but frankly could not plan our 1800 mile trip without the use of a good paper road map all on one page. Which neither a 3x5 inch GPS screen or a multi-page layout of an Atlas can provide. It is a shame that the cyber mindset of doing ALL things online is robbing people of the usefulness of some the real tools of enjoyable and safe travel. This map allowed us to work a new travel route through large construction areas that the GPS simply could not do on the fly while I was driving. My passenger could use the map and we were back on track to our ultimate destination in no time.

I’m going to the Canadian Rockies for vacation and just needed a map to avoid roaming charges on my phone or the $11/day GPS rental from a car rental agency. It’s mostly national parks, so I’m reasonably sure that they’re not building new roads or subdivisions that may not be on the map. Great information at a reasonable price to provide a little piece of mind.

This map got damp and tore immediately and didn't make it through a five day trip into BC. The locals looked at it, and said, "man, that is an old map". Roads that were on it did not exist and on dual sport motorcycles, it wasted time trying to find a dirt road that wasn't there. Awful.

Excellent publication. In the computer era, state and provincial road maps have become rare... and this is like the best of those.

Excellent map--showing where I had to go and how to get there!

Like others have said, it is a map that covers a lot of Canada. If you are looking for more detailed highway information or just not driving across half of Canada you might find a different map or use online mapping services.

It was perfect for our trip into Canada from Vancouver BC to Calgary AB. We used the map for the big overview, then used our vehicle's Garmin for fine tuning. On a side note, it was a disappointment that the original price sticker showing "$7.99" was still stuck to this new map. I felt a little ripped off, but it was a learning experience. Anyhow, the map ended up being "priceless."

Was grateful to have this map before traveling, as it had been far too long since I had been there. Highly recommend this map!

“White Rose, Black Forest” is billed as a historical fiction, but it has all the makings of a thriller. Author Eoin Dempsey presents Franka Gerber with a dilemma right from the beginning, then continues to turn up the heat as the story progresses. Although Franka understands the danger that could come from her actions, she continues to do what she feels is right.The story is told through the eyes of several characters, although Franka is the main focus. While we do learn of some of the motivations of the American John Lynch, it is through Franka’s eyes that readers are swept into a country consumed by conflicting emotions. The author allows her to speak the thoughts that must have been hidden by many German citizens in 1944. Even though her life has led her to her current predicament, everything is still not black and white, and Franka wrestles at times with what she should do.Mr. Dempsey offers descriptive passages at the same time, presenting interesting pictures with his use of words. For instance, we are told a used parachute blowing in the wind is “…licking at the snow like a thirsty animal.” The life-threatening description of the bombing of a German city thrusts readers into the action, and it is hard not to be fearful of what may happen to the people exposed to the possibility of instantaneous death. While I wasn’t always happy with the dialogue (at times, it felt a bit stilted), the characters stayed true to their basic motivations.As stated above, this historical fiction book turns into a thriller. Her choices place Franka in danger as the Gestapo quickly become a larger threat, which pushes the book to a breakneck pace as it heads toward the conclusion. Four stars.

WHAT DO WE HAVE? A psychological thriller? A true war story based on facts with fictitious characters? A suspense? Some of all of these. What we have is a mix of storyteller and history teacher with many long expository intrusions, flashbacks and author-voiced settings.PLOT gripped me immediately. We go deep into Franka's emotions as she slogs into the Black Forest woods, deep in snow, to end her life. After all, she's lost all her loved ones to war and the Gestapo. So she trudges to her "farewell location," carrying her dead father's revolver. She stumbles upon "a body, crumpled like a bunch of rags in the pristine white." From his Luftwaffe captain's jacket and the ruffled parachute, Franka's knows "he's one of the monsters who had destroyed this country and taken away everyone she had ever loved."DILEMMA. The airman is still alive. Franka is a nurse. Her sense of saving lives causes deep psychological turmoil -- let him die, go ahead with her suicide plans -- risk her life to save this stranger whom she hates? And then she hears him speak a few words in English!I'M INTRIGUED. Also, the author's descriptions make me "see." They're sharp without being long and add to the depth of the action.PACE -- the first half of the novel is the airman recovering from his limiting injuries and preparation to avoid the intruding Gestapo. It's a bit slow. Then as the Gestapo closes in, the tension becomes more severe. All the previous historical flashbacks deepen this tension. This book becomes a true action novel with a satisfying ending. .OVERALL -- this story and characters gripped my sympathy, and at times my deeper emotions. This was a wrenching time during World War II, heavy on moral dilemmas, grief, excruciating conflicts within and without, and love for both your friends and your enemies. TAKE-AWAY: "Don't let anyone dictate to you who you are, or what's in your soul" (Franka's father.)RECOMMEND. Even though there were problems arising from the difficulty of the book's concept, I think it still deserves five stars.

This was a quick read, mostly because I couldn't put it down. The story drops you into World War II and gives you a sense of what it was like in Germany then from one person's point of view. I believe it is honest in it's historical accuracy and description of the people and time period. It's a great romance but the historical part is to me, equally interesting. The story is well written with well developed characters and the story flows smoothly. You can read other reviews that will give the story away, I'm just here to tell you that if you are looking for something to read where the story will touch you and at the end you will say "I'm glad I read this", give this book a try.

This book captures the experience of Nazi Germany from a citizen's perspective that is not typically brought to light. It identifies how so many average citizens fell so easily into the propaganda that they were fed and how very hard it was for those who so desperately hung on to views that ran counter to the National Socialist movement. It was particularly interesting to largely focus on a female's experience with her own internal conflicts and changing philosophies. At some points it's very sad and at others very tense. Staying true to one's conscience in such horrific times, and the awful struggles to survive in those conditions, made for an emotional sorry that kept me turning pages until the very end.

This is what my father did during WWII. And yes, this is what it was like, you went in with no one but yourself to depend upon and knowing that America denied knowing you if you got caught. These were the true heroes, but they knew no medals waited in the wings for them no matter how brave and strong they were. After all, they didn't exist!!

I found it spiritually edifying and an absolute joy to read. It deserves to become a prominent part of the literature in this genre.

This book really spoke to me. It is written from the heart with honesty, humility, and understanding. It is a frank recollection of young woman unexpectedly coming into contact with that rarest of things..a true spiritual master, and overcoming her skepticism and conditioning. I could relate with so many of her internal realizations and struggles along the way. And I found her candor extremely helpful for my own understanding of what it means to strive to live a spiritual life. I highly recommend this book to anyone struggling to find their spiritual life.

As soon as I began reading this book, I related to Visakha dasi in a way I don’t often with authors. The writing is so intensely personal: you are right there with her as she astutely observes the practitioners of bhakti yoga, deeply ponders its rich philosophy, and—most significantly—meets and serves the incredible spiritual teacher who becomes her Guru. The writing of her narrative is imaginative and expressive, vivid and evocative—often wonderfully poetic. It's a down-to-earth account, but with a decidedly transcendental conclusion. It didn’t just tell her personal story, or just give an experience-driven account of what bhakti yoga entails, or just honor her spiritual master (although it accomplishes all three)—it prompted me to look inward, at my own spiritual journey, and it had me re-dedicating myself to prioritizing that journey. I’m sincerely grateful to her.

I found Highcharts and this book fantastic! I am using it everyday at work! I have searched high and low for charting applications and this is the best out there. I have also tried rGraph and Raphael and I can tell you that Highcharts is the quickest way to go if you are developing an application that requires charts.

This will get you going quickly with HighCharts. Easy to understand. Not great depth, no killer tips for advanced users.

Highcharts has reasonably good documentation; so, you don't need this book to jump in and start using it. I assume you are only considering this book because you prefer to be led step-by-step and to know all of the hows and whys instead of learning by trial and error. If so, this book will not disappoint.What this book gives you that the help docs don't is a combination of explanation in words, followed by the relevant JavaScript, followed by the screen shot of the resulting chart. It follows this pattern for various options in each area of Highcharts.I found it easy to follow and the downloadable code samples were thorough and very helpful.

You may probably have used, or will know at least, some library to create charts, because is the most pleasant way to display numerical data information, something that is very common.If so, It's quite probably that you know Highcharts, but if anyone is confused I'll say that it's a JavaScript library to create (almost) any chart type. There's a whole chapter to this in which you will find, among other things: how to implement a particular layout, tooltips customization, gradients, and animations.Chapter 3 - Line, Area, and Scatter Charts: Here you'll start with the chart generation. In this case you'll see how to create line, area and scatter charts, as well as combinations to show different chart types in the same area.Chapter 4 - Bar and Column Charts: More about chart generation but this time bar and column charts. You'll see how to show this chart type in different ways: with grouped columns, vertically or horizontally, mirror, etc.Chapter 5 - Pie Charts: This chapter is entirely dedicated to pie and donut charts. Like the previous chapters: how to create and display them in different ways.Chapter 6 - Gauge, Polar, and Range Charts: Creation of other types of pie charts. In this cases you have several possibilities as you'll see in this chapter, from using Xvfb and some browser to node.js or Phantom.js.As usual in the PacktPub books that I've reviewed - and there are several - it's a very practical book, with many examples which you can follow step by step and a lot of code that goes beyond the basic issues.On the downside I must say that the images in the printed version aren't in color. In other subject books this wouldn't have great importance, but in this case it would be useful to see the charts colors. In the digital version of the book, the images are colored.If you plan to use Highcharts in any of your projects, clearly will be a successful purchase, since it covers to a greater o lesser extent every aspect you can imagine related to this great library. Accordingly, it's obvious that Joe Kuan has wide experience using Highcharts in his daily work.

They are not fatal flaws, but they do detract a little from the reading experience.Problem #1. Being a finance textbook, it includes finance equations. On both the Mac and the iPhone, you must use the View Options tool to set the background to Black in order to read the formulas. If you set the background to Sepia or White, those equations render so poorly on screen, that they become unreadable. They look like a low-resolution scan of a scan of scan. Broken, incomplete, moth-eaten. Timeworn, like something out of an ancient manuscript.In the Mac version, they are not separate images, so they can't be enlarged. In the iPhone version, enlargement is possible and actually exposes the underlying cause of the problem: the Kindle software superimposes a layer of lighter-color text on top of the equations' native black type, thereby making the final result so hard to interpret. I find myself needing to constantly toggle background colors between Sepia (easier on the eyes for general reading) and Black (to read formulas).To the editor: please either remove the added text layer, or convert the equations to type, in the same font as the remainder of the textbook.Problem #2. In the iPhone version, touching the footnote hyperlinks only seems to work in one direction: forward. In other words, touching a numbered footnote embedded in the text works as expected (it take the reader to the linked footnote at the end of the chapter), but when the reader attempts to reverse direction and go back to the original reading point, it doesn't work -- the Kindle software merely moves a single page backward.Perhaps this problem is due to the fact that footnote text is left-aligned, instead of being indented. Since the footnote hyperlinks are so close to the left edge of the phone screen, it seems logical the the software would be unable to tell that the reader's finger is trying to touch a hyperlink, not trying to go back one page.To the editor: please try indenting footnote text to see whether this fixes the problem.

Jerry Schatzberg's photos of Dylan during his most iconic period are beautiful and mysterious, all at the same time. Dylan' look during that decade is, to me, the most electrifying and powerful of his career. They capture a time and place that could otherwise be lost to the mists of time. I keep looking through it, and always find something new to marvel at and don't imagine i will ever get tired of this beautiful book

This is a great book. Any Dylan fan would love this in their collection. The book came sealed, but has press smudge bleeds on page 214 & 222. I hope only with my book. Don't let it discourage you from getting this gem!I did request a replacement, but it had pages torn from 24-36. And the ink was flaking. (sigh) Not Amazon's fault. Printer issue. Amazon should go through some from the distributor and QC the stock. I had little money and didn't want to go though another disappointing replacement issue. I will just keep the "not so good" one as opposed to the really bad replacement.I really love this book though. Any Dylan fan would. heard Dylan 1st time in '67 and never looked back.
