I really appreciated this book! I like how it includes one chapter for a fictional child with each variation of SPD. I had read the Out of Sync child and looked at other books but felt they focused so much on the over-responsive version (bothered by tags, sounds, etc) that they weren't as useful for me and my little sensory seeker. This was the first time I read something and said "that's my kid!" That recognition along with some ideas for how to help him were really great.

I don't know why, but this is the book that resounded me with me when I was still trying to figure out what was different about my son from the other kids he played with. The most helpful part for me was a description of different kids days. There is a Typically Developing 6 year old getting ready, and then examples of other kids with different forms of SPD. I read the first couple scenarios and could see some things my son did. Then when I got to Ben, I literally got out of my chair and said, That is my kid! After 2.5 years of OT, our lives are completely changed. We have a pretty normal life now, and most people don't really notice any differences in him from other kids. We still need our OT, but he can manage his day and live as a fairly normal 7 year old now.

I recommend this book for all parents. You may not have a child who exhibits the sensory processing disorder but it is well worth reading just for good information. Parents can always use help in raising their "Sensational Kids". After all parenting is the hardest job on earth!

When our son was little we knew something was off, but we didn't know what. Our Dr kept telling us he was a boy and boys are slower at development than girls. But there was still that eerie feeling that either she just didn't know or we were nuts. On the SPD Foundation website we learned about this book. We read it and lo and behold! Answers! Real time answers that we were in desperate need of. This book helped us determine that we were not crazy. Yes, our son was a bit different but at least now we had a guide. And since the pediatrician was not knowledgable in this area, we were able to move on and AND were armed and ready with questions! We have all books written by this author and our son who is now 9 is doing fabulously.

When your child is diagnosed with SPD, it unearths a chasm of ignorance, helplessness, and haplessness within you. I thought my mind was going to explode just trying to understand it. I read The Out of Sync Child first, because it was the first thing mentioned by the team of therapists who repeatedly told me how critical "intense OT" would be for my son's development. I didn't even understand what OT was. So The Out of Sync Child began to answer some of my questions, but I found myself reaching information overload frequently while I read. Then someone recommended this book, and I just found it so much easier to read and to understand. Now I can throw jargon around with the best of them. And I'm an armchair SPD diagnostician, always spotting the kiddo at the playground that could use some "sensory strategies". The book helped me understand some of my own quirks and the quirks I've noticed in others, which, in turn has helped me be a little more empathic in my daily interactions. It's a keeper.

I really loved this book. It helped me to understand what my newly diagnosed SPD child goes through on a daily basis, how he feels, etc. It was an eye-opener and some parts were hard for me to read because I just didn't realize that he melts down because he feels so bombarded by sights and sounds that he isn't processing correctly. This book isn't so much one of those books that gives you specific therapies to try with your child, but it was still extremely valuable knowledge for us as we deal with our son on a daily basis, and it definitely made me feel less alone as far as I'm not the only parent who is going through this and my son isn't the only kid who has these issues. Re-framing how you view your child and his/her behaviors based on their SPD is very important in helping their self-esteem!

Exceptional book that has helped me IMMENSELY with my daughter. It was recommended by her occupational therapist after she was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder and I also highly recommend it. No 2 kids are identical and this book helps cover all the bases with the variances in child behavior with one struggling with this disorder. Very well written, and helped me when I felt like I was all alone trying to figure this thing out. I highly recommend this!!!!

Although I have written technical materials for years, I am relatively new to writing fiction - about 2 years. I consider this a novice-to-intermediate text. The good news is that if you are a novice, all the basics are here in a very practical and useable format. If you are an intermediate writer, there is a considerable amount of advanced material as well, so you won't get bored. If you are advanced, you are probably reading criticism and analysis of Proust, and, yes, this book is too basic for that. The teacher is from the Iowa's Writers Workshop, so she knows her stuff. This book deals in-depth with a specific topic that is important. I have found it more helpful and practical than many other writing books I have. Bottom line: I write better because of this book.

This is the first utility book on fiction writing I've read that truly delves into the art and science of writing a scene.It provides an excellent discussion of the elements of a successful scene, particularly its "beats" necessary to drive the scene so that the scene itself can drive the story. This book is well worth its price.

I thought this book was very good. The author seemed to be speaking directly to me. The only problem for me was which of her strategies to actually use? There were so many ways to analyze and evaluate your work. I ended up designing my own method made up of some of her suggestions which is, in my opinion, the best way to use a book of this nature. I was a little bothered by the way the author used scenes from so many books that I had not read. I feel that I was not able to truly understand Ms. Scofield's analyses when the scenes were isolated from the rest of the novel; although she had summarized the total novel for the reader.

A good book for writer's interested in educating themselves about writing good scenes.

This was a bit on the heavy complicated side for me. I found that Hooked' was a more entertaining read and offered information in a more understandable format.

Very informative. A must for any writer.

Bought this on the recommendation of my editor, and found it very useful, with lots of examples and exercises. The book is written in language that is very accessible and practical.

This is how he fought to be a good father, a successful entrepreneur, continue to engage his talent as a musician, and most of all, be a happy person, and how none of that came easy.I was overjoyed to read about his journey back to KoRn, and the way he can look at his absence not as God taking him away, but as God preparing him to go back. It’s very touching to read the stories of him praying with fans alongside his band mate and brother through Christ, Fieldy. Of course ignorant fans would mock them; it can be overwhelming for those who don’t know to stand in the presence of the Lord.I appreciate the candor he brings to this book, and that he has retained his humor. He shared some deeply personal stories about financial mishaps and near ruin. The challenges of being a single father to his daughter were heart wrenching, but I couldn’t help but find myself thinking how lucky she is to have a father who won’t give up on her, or their relationship.His Faith is a driving force for him that he is eager and unashamed to share. Be you Christian or not, reading about his life so far, his ability to fall, to persevere, and to rise again, is admirable.As for me, I have learned that Brian didn’t have one reason to walk away from a ‘rock star’ life...he had a million. And why he came back was backed by a force far greater than money, fame, and possessions. I love to see life come full circle.

I became a Christian and still messed up my life. I broke many relationships and walked away from God (without admitting it to others or myself). This book is starting to spring hope that God might still care about me. I am worried that he will not accept me as I am now, since I should have known better. A ray of hope is in my heart that He still wants to be with me, and is willing to clean me. Thank you so much for being so messed up, and sharing how much you are loved by God in honesty. I once cursed God too and tore up a bible. It was so encouraging to know that I'm not the only one, and that Gods love is big enough to not only forgive me for my sin, but still wants to grow closer.

With My Eyes Wide Open is Welch’s second book that he has written. In the book, he describes a whole course of decisions dating back to his decision to leave Korn in 2005. From this point on, he describes his life fathering his daughter Jennea, starting his own solo career, finding the light of god, battling depression, drug abuses, starting his own label company, going bankrupt, etc. Welch’s journey that he describes to us is incredibly realistic and dark. It is almost unthinkable to any Korn fan that the same guitarist behind the multi-platinum album Follow the Leader and Issues would not only quit the band, but run into financial problems of all things, as well as caring for his daughter and struggling to even start his own music career. Much like Korn vocalist Jonathan Davis, as well as many of their fans, Welch faces mental health issues and consistently struggles to come to terms with his life, unsurprising given that Korn has touched on the topic religiously in the past, and fans of their music often have some sort of reason to relate to it. In the book, Welch describes an unthinkable amount of hardship and struggle not only with his own life, but with his daughters as well. His only daughter, Jennea, has yet to meet her mother in her entire life, and she had begun to cut herself at the age of 14. Brian’s book ‘Save Me From Myself’ was so amazing I bought this one the second after I was done reading it. ‘With My Eyes Wise Open’ is a continuation of the story of his life’s journey with Jesus. Equally amazing as his first book I read, he shares his journey of hardships and trials, and of the pain of seeing his own child go through rough times. He writes with such a fantastic sense of humor that it’s hard not to pee your pants laughing even during sad stories of a beloved decomposing hamster. Though I’m already a Christian, both of his books I read have challenged me to be the best person I can be, and have reminded me of the beautiful unfailing love Jesus has towards me. Perfect for Christians as a reminder of Gods true nature and love towards us, and also perfect for NonChristians who want true answers about who Jesus is without seeming too preachy/overbearingly religious. This book has definitely changed my life. Thanks Brian for writing!

TIAS LITTLE’s unique and skillful approach enables students to find greater depth of understanding and awareness in their practice, both on and off the mat. His approach to the practice is inter-disciplinary, passionate, intelligent, innovative and full of insight. Tias synthesizes years of study in classical yoga, Sanskrit, Buddhist studies, anatomy, massage and trauma healing. Tias began studying the work of B.K.S Iyengar in 1984 and lived in Mysore, India in 1989 studying Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Pattabhi Jois. Thus his teaching brings together precision of alignment, anatomical detail and a profound meditative experience. Tias is a licensed massage therapist and his somatic studies include in-depth training in cranial-sacral therapy. His practice and teaching is influenced by the work of Ida Rolf, Moshe Feldenkrais and Thomas Hanna. Tias is a long time student of the meditative arts and Buddhist studies beginning with Vipassana and continuing in Tibetan Buddhism and Zen. His teaching style is unique in being able to weave together poetic metaphor with clear instruction filled with compassion and humor. Tias earned a Master’s degree in Eastern Philosophy from St. John’s College Santa Fe in 1998. Tias is the author of three books, The Thread of Breath, Meditations on a Dewdrop and Yoga of the Subtle Body.

I LOVE this book by Tias Little! I have been a yoga instructor for over 45 years. I teach classes, specialized training's, lead workshops, as well as retreats all over the world, and this book blows me away. It describes the vital anatomy we use in yoga, along with explaining how the subtle body integrates with the anatomy to form the heart of the practice. Organized, well written,and deep.

If you are at the 'give up' point in your yoga practice because your body will not respond, READ THIS BOOK!Once you are done reading this book, you WILL be at a whole different level, not just in your yoga practice but your awareness of your own body. Caution...If you don't know your human anatomy, you will need an anatomy book or Google very close by and it is SO worth it.I am so grateful I found this book when I did! I hit a plateau in my yoga practice and was unable to move past some simple poses. With Tias Little's deep understanding of the human body and deep human connection to chakra's, my understanding of where my body was struggling was provided light. Doing just a few techniques in the book, I have broken through my plateau and I no longer see restrictions, only possibilities.

An incredible and insightful look into the mystery that is the interior of the human body, weaving together yoga practice, science, mythology, anatomy and Chakra theory. I absolutely love the focus on the Chakras being around the nerve plexuses, physical structures inside the body and how they relate to yoga. This book made the subtle body and chakras more real and tangible for me, whereas many books on the subject focus on the mystical energy system and feel un-grounded and unrelatable to normal people and teaching a regular yoga class.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Chakras and the subtle body but feels the current popular knowledge on the subject is too philosophical (or difficult to relate to in a realistic sense). The insights in this books help connect lofty mystical theory, with the physical elements of the body and into the moving meditation that is your yoga practice.Would Highly Recommend.

As a beginner it's very informative but a bit over my head. I wish there were more illustrations. Some of the poses take 2 paragraphs to describe - a pic would help!

This was a wonderfully insightful book. I would say that it is most suited for those who already have some working background on the topics, it wasn't written for the very beginner of yoga. I read it to supplement my yoga teacher training. It is well organized and researched. And while it is not a long book nor a difficult read, I certainly took my time reading it (20 or so pages at a time) since there is just so much information per page (not a wasted word). Little makes the most fantastic connections over and over in this book.

I was truly blessed to study with Tias and his wife, Surya, at their studio in Santa Fe for three years. As my own yoga teaching career has grown, the wisdom they gave me has been a daily source of inspiration. I have often wished I could go back for a refresher, and after reading this book I feel as though I have. It is a true godsend. Tias manages to present deep spiritual and physical insight with good humor and easily understood symbology. He distills information from texts that are much more difficult to penetrate and combines it with his own invaluable observations. The result is both dense with data and highly accessible. Whether you are a seasoned instructor, a dedicated yogi, or a novice looking for a path to self-healing, this book is a must-read.

This is a very difficult read for the average non-yogi yoga practitioner. At least I found it so.

This book is filled with inner wisdom and knowledge expressed colorfully and poetically as Tias Little has the unique way of doing in his teachings. It is a guide into the depth of the energetic and physical body, mind and breath. I highly recommend this book for teachers and students of yoga who want to deepen their practice and understanding of alignment and awareness of body, mind, and spirit.

This book is your standard size of most manga, not a tall book but a nice lengthy one.Really cute and captures the charm of the show. It is slightly offputting how short some of the stories are compared to their adaption to the anime but no complaints really.The print is a bit dark but all in all, a solid manga and worth it for fans.

My daughter liked everything about this manga book. She likes the show so it wasn't surprising that she would like this book. She said that it's funny and entertaining and would like to purchase the other volumes.

It is very cute and detailed. I already had the Japanese version of volume 1 and it is a great replica of its quality. I love Umaru-chan!

This was a great read! The book felt very lengthy, which is great considering its size. I enjoyed seeing the different art style and the series is just as good as I remember.

Onii-chan had to work late and TOTALLY forgot to get me the latest copy of Young Jump. So I rolled around on the floor and cried until he gave me this. I'm not familiar with this "Umaru", but she seems pretty great. I think we would get along well.
