This book was extremely well written. Luttrell did an amazing job at describing the environment and the people involved in the "story." It is a gut-wrenching and pivoting tale of the forging of one Patriot into a SEAL, and an account of the many professional Operators whom lost their lives that one fateful day defending this nation. If you are into war, history, strategy, and combat-related readings, I highly recommend Lone Survivor. It should be recommended reading for students at public/private educational institutions since it presents a modern first-hand perspective on war and the respect that our Armed Forces have earned and deserve. It is certainly more useful than drab history text books that cover entire wars/conflicts in a few paragraphs.Luttrell does not interrupt the rhythm with in-depth details ad nauseam ala Tom Clancy, but he does provide enough information so that the reader isn't completely lost. For example, he describes how he added 3 extra magazines to his standard loadout, his Oakley Assault Boots, the Mk 12 Mod 0 rifle with PEQ-4 and sound suppressor, and the position of the Taliban as his team is regrouping down the mountainside. A Clancy novel would have filled no less than 5 chapters detailing the luster of the moly-dry film coating on the Mk 12 receivers, the durometer of the Oakley Assault boot soles, etc... The book was also published before Lt. Mike Murphy was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Fascinating book! Puts us into the minds of soldiers and the brotherhood they adhere to in order to survive and in a sense are addicted. The alpha males and their domain - and I am very grateful for them and their sacrifice. (Spoiler alert) Marcus blames the 'liberal' media for making them decide to let the goat herders go instead of killing them. Ultimately it was the goat herders' release that led the enemy to their doorstep. My problem with this whole 'idea' was why didn't they just gag them and leave them on the hill - and then get out? The mission had been compromised. Hence this is my problem with the guy's premise that it's somehow the liberal media's fault that his buddies got killed? Really? My one complaint is the bashing of 'lefties' 'liberals' and the 'media.' I get the resentment, but I don't get the continual need for his book to go after the 'left' They aren't the enemy - nor is the right. . We are Americans at heart, liberal or right or whatever. Our tenets of freedom of press means we all have the right to speak our mind and our America is everyone's America. This great nation is 'great' because we adhere to a moral ground on certain things and that's important and it's important for the press to look for the stories of the disadvantaged etc. and yes, maybe what they see as abusive power by the military and no we haven't put the Navy Seals into jail for killing Osama Bin Laden - (and yes we had a 'liberal 'President in charge when it happened). The trained soldiers are trained to go into 'harms' way - the press is not - but they are the eyes we need to see the truth. As a navy seal, I would expect you to voice an opinion which was more balanced. I am a patriot too, because I know what our Constitution says - once we sink to the enemies level of 'hatred' and disregard for life - we loose the moral battle. Again, absolutely no disrespect to our soldiers in uniform - I support them and will continue to give money to the veterans groups I support - but PLEASE stop the liberal bashing. In fact, we become our own worst enemies when we make our fellow American's our enemies. I'm so tired of it.

This book was a tremendous story, and I highly recommend it. The horror this young man, and his buddies went through is hard to fathom. What our military put these young men through is hard for any common person to comprehend. It was amazing that he lived. He lost three of his best friends, and barely lived to tell the story. This book is a must read because for one thing, the movie that was made about his ordeal is not completely accurate. The story didn't need to be embellished, but the movie makers thought their vision of what happened was better than that of Marcus Luttrell, and they were very wrong. By reading the book, I knew what actually happened, and it was more intriguing than what the movie portrayed. Some people will never read the book so I guess the movie will give them some idea what it was like, but the book tells the real truth. Marcus' story telling ability kept me riveted to my seat, and brought tears to my eyes to hear what terrible things these young men had to endure. I hope that lots of people will read this book written by a remarkable young soldier.

Couldn’t put this book down. As usual the book is much, much better than the movie. Actually, the movie follows along with the books concepts and what Marcus went through but each event was different in the book compared to the movie.Also, there are a lot of lies out there about how many Taliban they faced. You have these disgusting journalist that want to put our military down and lie. According to eye witness accounts and the military records, Mr. Latrell and his team faced 150 to 200 Taliban. They killed over 100 of the Taliban. The lame and poor excuse for journalist say 32 Taliban and some have even go as far as to say that not even 100 could live in that area; wrong! The 32 number comes from how many Taliban were killed when they rescued Marcus.Read this book because the movie, is great, but doesn’t do the book justice.

I read this book to my children and bought it so they can read it to theirs. Wonderful pictures and wonderful story.Strega Nona has a magic pot that makes pasta. It starts with the magic words only she knows and it stops making pasta when she says the ending magic words. Unfortunately, Big Anthony overheard the start words, but not the end magic words and like the BLOB a never ending pot of pasta engulfs the town. Strega Nona returns and deals with Big Anthony and teaches him a lesson he will never forget.My granddaughter loves this book too. And I love reading it to her.

My mother grew up in Italy and Strega Nona (La Befana) was such a big part of her life. My mother grew up very poor and she was always so excited to put her stocking or shoe outside their door and hope and pray she would get an orange or one piece of candy. My mother carried on these traditions with our family and when she got great grandchildren she was always so excited. I highly recommend this book and Tomie De Paola is such an awesome writer. Thank you.

I read this book as a child and loved it. So when I saw it on the shelf at B&N I was thrilled - wasn't so thrilled with the B&N price though. Then I found it on Amazon the price was killer so I picked it up.This story is an excellent example of the cost of "not listening" to important instruction. The boy instructed not to touch the witch's magic cooking pot, does so anyways and is dismayed when mounds and mounds of spaghetti fill the town. When Strega Nona returns and stops the spaghetti, she charges the boy with cleaning up his mess by eat all the spaghetti. It teaches, in a fun way, about unintended consequences to our actions.

I love this story! A classic tale from my childhood that I wanted to pass on to my young ones. The audio CD was a bonus! I love the fun music, but the reading of it is very very slow. Also, the print quality of the book is not very good; it seems like the illustrations were blown up to make a larger book but the quality of the images is grainy and colors are faded.

Best book ever! I've been reading this book for many many years!! My shin who is now 29 his son who is 8 when he was little and now my granddaughter that is 3 and my girls that are now 22 & 17 they ALL enjoy it!!

When our sons were young, we read to them often and then extended their love for reading and stories by playing audio books to them as they were going to sleep at night. Now we have grandchildren and we are seeing them enjoy the same love for reading and stories in like manner. Strega Nona is wonderful story and Tomie dePaola has a pleasing voice to hear as he narrates the story. Our grandchildren love the story and the moments we are spending together are building special memories.

This is, by far, one of my all time favorite books! I remember being read it when I was a child and, after I purchased it for myself and re-read it, got flooded with the memories once again. This is a fantastic book from the mind of Tomie dePaola in which a kind witch, who helps many people in and out of her village, tells her new helper not to use her magical pasta pot while she's away. He doesn't listen and, true to the nature of things, havoc ensues as pasta floods the village. Leave it to Strega Nona to come to the rescue while imparting on him a valuable lesson about listening and learning from your actions. It's a must read :)

We started reading this book (my child is 3.5) a week ago and we have read it almost twice a day ever since. My daughter does not lack for favorite books but the fantastical aspect and the charming humor in this book have certainly captured her attention. She feels the anticipation as the pasta begins to overtake the town, she feels relief when Strega Nona stops the pot with a sputter, and she giggles with glee when Big Anthony's pot belly grows. Sometimes I get tired of reading longer books but I personally love to read this one and animate it with my voice to suit the charming story. The illustrations are absolutely wonderful too and I love sharing a fable from another culture with my daughter. Really a pleasure.

Easy to read and I like the straightforward approach. The author gives ideas and strategies but encourages the reader to do what works for them, no “shoulds” here. I like that.“Minimalism” is truly an offshoot or recycling/marketing of the Simplicity movement of the 90s, lol. The author aptly titled his book...I just find it humorous that “simplify” is out and “minimal” is in.Recommended this book! A+

Boje has taken the gems of minimalism / decluttering thoughts and laid them out in a concise and orderly fashion. With some of his own personal examples and experiences, he's put together a handbook of actions to get anyone on their way to a more orderly life.If you're new to minimal thoughts, this is a great place to start, with many references to other books and authors for further research.If you're working on another round of minimalism, this is motivating and a great refresher.As for reviews commenting on typos and grammatical errors; I had no problem comprehending his writing and I found his English usage far exceeds many American's. In the copyright and publishing information Boje asked readers to let him know of errors and gave his contact information.

Our second most favorite book on de-cluttering. Respectfully written. A quick concise read also. Only issue for us, we live in a sub-tropical climate, so the attic (or garage) are not very usable for storage. We do wish that homebuilders would include a few more storage closets in homes built in the U.S., for say, out-of season coats or hunting gear, sporting equipment, hurricane supplies, perhaps also a dedicated closet for a sewing machine, ironing board, and vacuum cleaner. The elephant in the room (that we haven't seen addressed by any book on organization or de-cluttering!) certainly is that many of us didn't have so much of a problem with clutter before 1980, which seemed approximately the time that homebuilders decided to eliminate proper and adequate storage closets from newly built homes.

This book has a unique approach to decluttering. Very pragmatic.Nothing new, just stated in a simple, non-complicated matter-of-fact way. Easy and fast to read.Make decluttering something that makes sense to you.

Basically comes down to what do you want to achieve and options to start down the path to your end result. Not a do1, 2, 3, you're done book. Just a stimulate the thought processes to help you find you way.

I enjoyed this short, quick book. Boje touches on numerous popular "versions" of minimalism and decluttering, some with more appreciation than others, but all to encourage the reader to embrace minimalism. What I liked about this approach was that it really helped you to feel as though the journey is just as important than the end goal, and to not get bogged down on an approach that doesn't work for you. I particularly like the part about minimalism with children because he touches on a pet peeve of mine that I often hear in support groups. Great book! Definitely worth your 30-45mins of reading time!

A quick and pleasant read. Lots of good ideas. It's more an overview of techniques than a prescription. I thought it was going to mock minimalism, but it is just a less stark and drastic form of minimalism. Lots of sensible advice. Not a whole lot of nuts-and-bolts though.

This was an easy read. It provides helpful tips on how to declutter. I am in the process of clearing out a family members estate and it helped give me inspiration.

First, the letter and its topic is not listed at the start of the text on each page. You have to read it at the middle or bottom of the the text. Kids learning this material for the first time will not have a context for understanding what they are reading without having the topic specified first.Second, the material and artwork is excellent. Through, I wish more of what was discussed in the text was also in the images. There are many pages that meet that, but some that do not.Lastly, I really think the book should have been consistent with 2-page spreads for each letter because they covered so much material for each letter. I know they were trying to keep the book shorter, but this is one book that should not have been cut short.Overall, a good book and we will keep it... it just could have been better.

My theme for 2009-2010 is "The Library: Your Passport to Anywhere." This book, "P is for Passport," gave me the idea. Devin Scillian created 26 things that people of the world have in common and wrote script to identify them. Then the publishers hired illustrators from around the world to create visuals--altogether a multicultural effort to depict a multicultural world.As in most alphabet books, there is the fairly simple script, then on the opposite page details highlighting content in the script. For example, B:"A British boy in Brighton, eating a buttery bun,Another boy in Brooklyn eats a bagel in the sun.....B is for Bread all over the world, baking every day."On the opposite page the reader learns what bread is made of, that it is prehistoric, comes in all shapes, sizes, and flavors. By the way, there are "biscuits in Baton Rouge" (the capital of my home state).Other letters: C is for Currency, D is for Desert, which covers about one-fifth of our world, E is for Everest, which stands over 20 Empire Buildings high and is the tallest mountain in the world (what we all share), F is for Faith, G is for Grain.Try dumplings in Munich, ramen in Tokyo, or a platter of pasta, a breakfast of porridge, or Mexican corn, Moroccan couscous, or Kansas wheat, or in China they ask, "Have you had your rice today?"What is H? This is a beautifully illustrated alphabet book on geography. Each page has a two-page illustration, with a rhyming verse on the topic (i.e. P is for People), and a side-bar with more in-depth information.One warning: "K is for knapsack". Why use a silent "k" for the K page? If you are trying to teach your children letter sounds via this book, this page is confusing.I would recommend this for libraries and schools, but don't think it's a "Must Have" for home.

Buon giorno! This is not your typical ABC book. I actually learned some information while reading this book as it is not geared for our younger ABC readers. Did you know the tongue of the blue whale can be the size of an elephant? Did you know the canopy in the rainforest can be so densely packed that it can take 10 minutes for raindrops to reach the jungle floor? Is it proper to belch after a meal in Taiwan? Sure, that’s considered a compliment to the chef. I love learning this stuff, I don’t know where I will ever use it but it sure is interesting. This book is very unique as each letter of the alphabet is highlighted with a two-page spread. One page talks about the letter highlighted and its significance in the world around us and the second page gives up some worldwide advice about the word highlighted with that letter. So much information and great information at that, I was greatly impressed that it was so informative and interesting. For example: L is for language and it talks about the different languages spoken in a few countries in a handful of sentences. Then in the worldwide advice there are four paragraphs talking about language: one paragraph stating the language most widely spoken worldwide, a paragraph about the English language, and a paragraph of greetings in different languages and a paragraph about speaking your native language. Here are a few other ones: Q is for quest, Y is for year, B is for bread, M is for music, and Z is for zone, I was wondering about that one. This book would make a wonderful addition to an older child’s library as I loved it for its refreshing look at the alphabet, the information it provided and the pictures it contained. It’s definitely worth taking a look at. “buon giorno” means hello to you in Italian.
