Well thought out, comprehensive, travel guide that is the same dimensions as the Time Out Guides (which I love) so they are perhaps slightly too big for an average pants pocket (e.g. Top Ten/Wallpaper), but not bulky and hard to travel with (Insight/DK/Eyewitness/NatGeo/Fodors and some Framers). Fortunately, this Lonely Planet strikes a good balance between planning the trip and what to do once there. Sometimes Time Out is focused on getting there (planning/history) vs. walking you through a typical short vacation/tourist visit.I could quibble with the organization of the Andalusia guide. For instance, it seems that "getting there" info should be first vs toward the back of the book and separated into "Need to Know" and "Transport" (these items should be co-located in the front); more color photos would be helpful; more info for LGBT travelers, including festivals/events, shopping and nightlife; and a better balance of listings between low-end and high-end shopping (as well as mens/womens shopping, furniture, antiques, art and hidden gems).Buy overall this is a good comprehensive guide to Southern Spain for an occasional traveler.

I only bought this book for information about Gran Canaria, and I did not get much out of it. The itineraries were uninspiring, the descriptions of the areas in the middle of the island were lacking, and the author’s tone regarding the southern parts of the island were downright hateful! TripAdvisor has proven to be a far more valuable resource for planning my trip.

Though obviously written by an amateur writer, the tale itself is chilling and emotionally charged. Writing it from the perspective of the girl took guts, even if at times it made me squirm in discomfort. The ending was a bit odd, but the story itself was well worth the money.

KatieLynn sure had to endure lots of abuse from her father and doing so because she felt unloved by her mother then not wanting to lose her love from her father. #emotionalread

For the most part, was a really good read. And quite believable. However, the book ends quite abruptly. I felt that the author could have written at least a few more pages to neatly tie up the whole story.

It was creepy but a fast read to see what happened. Ended completely strange. Written like a child was writing it. I'm glad I only spent .99 cents on it. Anymore than that would have been a waste of money.

Even though the book was written 20 years ago, it still describes the politics that many teams go through to this day. Most MR teams still struggle with funding and oversight by local sheriff departments. Mountain Rescue personnel are volunteer, provide their own gear and even have to pay for their gas to get to the incident. Sheriff's departments assign SAR Coordinators, some committed, some not. The Sheriff's departments don't fund equipment or training. Again, it is paid for out of the volunteer's pocket.The team personalities described in the book can be found in teams today(2013).Recommended read for all current MRA members and those considering joining a team.

Wonderful TV Show!

The falling season is a tough book to review, since I am involved in SAR work, not in Colorado though. First off the author is an excellent writer and keeps the book moving along. He gets into the personalities of the team members and when you do SAR work you realize that it is the interrelationships of the team personal that make or breaks your team. I think Mr. Clifford does a good job in detailing the day to day nuances of the characters in the book.I also think that he portrays a realistic look at the tensions that arise between the NEEDED paramilitary Sheriffs department and the free-spirited rescuers. The facts are that the SAR Teams are going to become more and more under the direct aegis of the Sheriff departments. That means more liability issues will be raised and in turn more Certifications will be needed to be a member of any SAR team. While this may be a noble objective it also had the direct dilemma of ostracizing the competent members on any SAR team. I have seen it happen, so sometimes the net result is a SAR team will lose some competent people only to be replaced by individuals that have passed the minimum sheriffs department certifications. While technically these individuals are qualified to perform a rescue they are as inept as any mountain neophyte is and in most cases a liability to the team. But this is the wave of the future and a reason why the author sees SAR teams being staffed only by paid people.One caveat for the any Non SAR person. This book does glamorize the work and makes it seem as non-stop action. I understand that the book has to do this otherwise it would be a bore to read. But real SAR work can be tedious and hard, no limelight, many days spent traipsing through buckthorn or on the side of some rattlesnake-infested ridge. You will come home on many days, dirty and tired, with fresh scrapes on your hands and faces oozing blood, just wondering just why you were assigned to search that area? But in the end it's always worth it.

Tha Falling Season gives readers an inside look at the operations of one of America's best rescue teams, Aspen Mountain Rescue. This fast paced book also lets us inside the personal lives of several key team members and shows us the triumphs and conflict that inevitably exist in such groups. Truly an excellent book for anyone interested in search and rescue and outdoor sports or mountaineering.

Great read on the harsh realities of SAR work. I used topo maps to follow along with the searches, learning a great deal about the Roaring Fork Valley and surrounding peaks. Very well written and I highly recommend it if you have an interest in Colorado mountaineering or SAR in general.

I am on a rescue squad so when I got this book I was very excited. I will say that I am not much of a book person but this book reeled me in. I thought that the story in itself was very interesting and relates to many rescue teams. However be prepared for the book to jump around a bit. I found myself adding words at times to make the sentences ledgeable. This was the only downfall to this book and it might be due to the publishers fault. So if you are interested in finding out what type of people it takes to be in SAR work this book points the way.

I love this book. I read many books each year, some non-fiction, some fiction, some about science and the environment, some political and some historical, you get the picture. It doesn’t matter how you label this book, it’s a good read. It’s one of those books, not unlike Maeve Binchy’s books, where you can get lost in the story, in the characters and in the locale. I’m not going to repeat the story line here, you can catch that in the other reviews. What I’m going to share with you is that I like this author’s development of her characters. As you read through the book you learn more about each of the characters and how they come to interact. Most importantly you get to experience with Hanna, not only her growth in her relationships with her family, but also her integration into the community. For many of us community matters, and we all have roles to play in making our communities successful. You’ll walk along with these characters as they move through the series, and become engaged with them as they become involved in their community.The author transports us to a small community on Ireland’s West Coast. She does an excellent job. I swear I can see the places she’s writing about, smell the ocean, hear the birds and feel the wind. This is a gift, to transport the reader away from the stress of our day to another community, even if that community exists only in our mind.I fail to understand how the other reviewers found this book “mundane and boring”, and “the same old story told and retold.” What story is being retold? A character grows. That hopefully happens in all books. As for mundane and boring, I have no idea what they were looking for, if it was death and mayhem then they should have looked elsewhere. This book and series is a delight. Well written. Good character development. And a mental vacation. What more could I ask for? I received an advance copy to read but then purchased three copies to give as Christmas gifts. And no, no discounts. I like this book. Grab a cup of tea or coffee, snuggle up with a blanket and start reading. You’ll enjoy it.

I loved this novel. The plot and characters reminded me a bit of Maeve Binchy, which is a huge compliment. There is more than enough violence and sadness in the world. It's essential to escape that with a good book that has a happy ending. And I love anything to do with Ireland. After I read the author's autobiographical account of buying a house in Ireland, I had to read this. I eagerly await more from Felicity Hayes-McCoy.

Hanna lives with her mother on the outskirts of a town in Ireland. She has left her husband, after discovering he was cheating on her, and they are both very unhappy with the situation. Her daughter, Jazz has a job with an airline company, and Hanna supports her decision, the ex husband thinks she's frittering her life away. Hanna has a job at the library, which entails driving a mobile van around the area. She decides that she will fix up a house that she has been left by a great aunt long ago, and slowly her outlook on life changes.The story was not what I expected it to be. There are politics and nuns, and young people giving up everything for a chance to help their family. And the builder she brings on to help her make the house liveable, Fury are downright strange. I like that the book has a hint of romance, but that is far from the focus. A good book that leaves you satisfied.

In her writing, Felicity Hayes-McCoy makes the west of Ireland come alive. The characters are well developed and the story has a wonderful ending. I was so pleased Ms. Hayes-McCoy brought forward a novel after writing "House on an Irish Hillside". She leaves you wanting to visit this magical, beautiful part of the world. Can't recommend her work highly enough!

This is a great book that demonstrates the importance of personal relationships and community. The protagonist learns to see her life from a different perspective, while turning reluctant aquaintances into friends and changing the direction of her small town for the better.

I have always dreamed of finding a piece of property with a view of water and a tumbledown shack to rebuild into a snug hideaway. This book fed that dream.The character Hanna is smart, caring, short tempered and stubborn. Her strengths and her flaws are largely a result of being raised by a mother who is jealous and conniving and a father who put his role as husband before that of father.While the plot was largely predictable, the descriptions of western Ireland were lovely and made me want to visit. The author captures small town rural life very well. Young people are torn between leaving to find fulfilling employment or staying in a place that they love. Older people are in each other’s business and lives while mostly ignoring the politics that impact them.The book was sort of a “cozy” - comforting and easy to read.

When Hanna returns home to the south western peninsula of Ireland to start over she wants a life that she can be proud of. With a degree in art history her only choice for a job is at the local library where she meets many colorful locals. At first she and her sixteen year of daughter live with Hanna's mother Mary who is critical and negative. When her daughter leaves into a life of her own Hanna's moves to a cottage left to her by her father's aunt. After getting a loan to rehab the cottage she finds out that the county plans to close the library leaving Hanna without a job and the locals, especially the seniors without a place to socialize. Fate steps in and Hanna pulls strength from the reserve that she didn't know she had and she with the help of the locals finds a reason why the county cannot do as they plan.

Since I visited Ireland I have read several books with that setting. I can identify with the description of the villages and countryside. In this book, some of the characters are a bit predictable but fit the plot and setting well. The book is a light, fun read.
