This is a delightful book. Not exactly a novel, not exactly a book on gardening but more of an amusing question and answer column about gardening and people. Wonderful if you like light, dry humor.

Entertaining, informational. Takes a bit of getting used to the writer's style. Easy to read short portions in your spare time.

A look at the obsessive side of gardening seen through the eyes of a Martha-wannabe fictional garden columnnist. Has a bit of edge when you read between the lines, but very funny and enjoyable.

Life at Miltonhurst is organized around two things--gardening and the Q & A column of one Miss Mertensia Corydalis. As for the rest--not so organized. She comes from a long line of expert gardeners--it is in her blood, but please, please, don't ask her about lawn care. This makes her blood boil.Mertensia's operation is small, organic and old world. Her publication is rival to the ever expanding landscaping empire of Norton Doyle. Norton, who is decidedly non-organic in his approach, happens to be her ex husband. Her brother Artur, and assistants Tran and Miss Vong, add to the chaos in a book that reads like an unintentional diary. You are eager to find out what else slips into her column besides sound advice. However, it can get personal.Miss Mertensia seems prudish and formal on the surface--but not so. She is never crude but always full of double entendre. It is the reader who has the dirty mind. Never the less, Abbott's star character is highly literate. Her lush descriptions and it must be said, rapier wit make this the intelligent reader's humor title of the year.Beyond their antics, you can truly learn a thing or two about the real world of horticulture. Abbott is the gourment of the garden. Included is a recipe for candied violets from the backyard. Yum. Please buy this book--you will laugh and learn simultaneously.

My husband found this lovely little book in a cute little bookstore in Winona, Minnesota. We bought it and brought it home, and I attempted to use it for one of my favorite passtimes, which is to read a book aloud while laughing so hard I can't speak! My husband kept having to rip the book out of my hands in order to finish reading a sentence. I decided that my mother-in-law, who is an avid gardener, needed to read the book, but I refused to give up my copy, so I had to order a copy from Amazon. She loved the book too.This book is the perfect gift for the gardener who has everything.

This book is at times a hoot! A little confusing to begin with as I thought it was strictly a gardening book, however, anyone with a sense of humor (the darker the better) will get a kick out of the author's fictitious persona and hopefully, fictitious gardening columns. There are actually some pretty good horticultural gems, as well.

Subtle, tongue in cheek humor. Especially for gardeners who know a little something about horticulture - you need some knowledge to 'get' her humor. Loved it!

This is an amazing story of a family and their journey through life. Their daughter Jennifer was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when she was two and she lived a full and good life until she passed away at age 43. Much longer than most with this disease. I was in awe of their love and devotion to each other. The mom/dad and daughter threesome, such a journey and done with such care. This was not an easy journey at all, so many trials and tribulations, but such strength throughout. A must read. Jennifer was an amazingly strong woman, was married to a loving husband and had 18 years together. He was her rock. I am in awe of this whole family. The dad developed lung cancer, stage four and passed away as well. The daughter and father duo were solid throughout their time sharing such a devastating thing. Please read this book. Life changing.

This is a story of tragedy faced with courage, honesty and humor. So real, it feells like you are on this journey yourself. A quick read that leaves you more aware.and empathetic. It's hero's journey!

As a past critical care, ER and hospice nurse RN the messages in the book are powerful. If you know of a person or family struggling with a challenging diagnosis, get this book and read it and then give it to them.It’s an honor and privilege to write my review of Donna’s book. The purpose of Donna’s book it to bring hope to those challenged with a health challenge, for Donna’s daughter it was Cystic Fibrosis, (CF) and her husband, Cancer. Sadly, Donna not only lost her daughter to CF but during the same struggling time she lost her husband to Cancer. To hear how Donna, Jennifer and Evan Michael maneuvered the roller coaster ride of both Jennifer and Evan Michael’s health challenges is a miracle in motion; in addition their health challenges brought forth Donna’s heath challenges. A roller coaster ride that continues today as Donna brings forth her message of inspiration, love, faith, family, hope, gratitude, attitude, wisdom and the power of nutrition and self-care.There are many messages and words of wisdom throughout the book that can only come from someone who is on their journey seen through the eyes of a terminal illness. The ability to face the daily challenges of a terminal illness and see the power of looking at the glass half full as opposed to half empty is powerfully inspiring and healing.One of the best words of advice (there are many more so get this book) is on page 144 from Donna’s now deceased husband. He talks about how to talk to a person who is struggling on their journey and what it’s best to NOT to say. Don’t ask “How are you today?” Instead ask, “Who do you want me to be for you today?” Then shut up and listen and do what they tell you. They may need a hug, they may need you to listen and they might want you to just be silent.Jennifer, Evan Michael and Donna are amazing people and now it’s Donna’s mission to carry forth the message of hope and the power of nutrition for bringing the body into balance so that it can heal its self.I know you might be thinking, but Jennifer and Evan still died. This book really touched my heart. The parents in this book, especially the mother showed such love, devotion, strength and vulnerability in this book. It really shows how strong parents can be in the midst of tragedy. To lose a child is heartbreaking, but to work day and night to try to keep this from happening must have been such an exhausting labor of love. The daughter showed such strength and determination in the face of her illness. The entire family supported each other every single day. I know that the month of December will forever more be a difficult month for Donna to weather.

5 star this was a good book and is for soccer lovers and it really is sad at parts but a good book

My 10 year old son loved this book.

My son is a big soccer fan and is hooked on Michael Part's biographies of soccer players. We just finished this one and loved it! It's so much fun to get to know the back story and how this interesting guy got to where he is today! Can't wait for the next one!

We raised our kids in Mexico on Fútbol and tacos; Michael Part's books about the greatest players playing the world's greatest game are scattered about the house — but there's plenty of room for "Balotelli; The Untold Story." Excellent work, Sir. Keep it up..
