About the Author
TIAS LITTLE’s unique and skillful approach enables students to find greater depth of understanding and awareness in their practice, both on and off the mat. His approach to the practice is inter-disciplinary, passionate, intelligent, innovative and full of insight. Tias synthesizes years of study in classical yoga, Sanskrit, Buddhist studies, anatomy, massage and trauma healing. Tias began studying the work of B.K.S Iyengar in 1984 and lived in Mysore, India in 1989 studying Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Pattabhi Jois. Thus his teaching brings together precision of alignment, anatomical detail and a profound meditative experience. Tias is a licensed massage therapist and his somatic studies include in-depth training in cranial-sacral therapy. His practice and teaching is influenced by the work of Ida Rolf, Moshe Feldenkrais and Thomas Hanna. Tias is a long time student of the meditative arts and Buddhist studies beginning with Vipassana and continuing in Tibetan Buddhism and Zen. His teaching style is unique in being able to weave together poetic metaphor with clear instruction filled with compassion and humor. Tias earned a Master’s degree in Eastern Philosophy from St. John’s College Santa Fe in 1998. Tias is the author of three books, The Thread of Breath, Meditations on a Dewdrop and Yoga of the Subtle Body.

I LOVE this book by Tias Little! I have been a yoga instructor for over 45 years. I teach classes, specialized training's, lead workshops, as well as retreats all over the world, and this book blows me away. It describes the vital anatomy we use in yoga, along with explaining how the subtle body integrates with the anatomy to form the heart of the practice. Organized, well written,and deep.
If you are at the 'give up' point in your yoga practice because your body will not respond, READ THIS BOOK!Once you are done reading this book, you WILL be at a whole different level, not just in your yoga practice but your awareness of your own body. Caution...If you don't know your human anatomy, you will need an anatomy book or Google very close by and it is SO worth it.I am so grateful I found this book when I did! I hit a plateau in my yoga practice and was unable to move past some simple poses. With Tias Little's deep understanding of the human body and deep human connection to chakra's, my understanding of where my body was struggling was provided light. Doing just a few techniques in the book, I have broken through my plateau and I no longer see restrictions, only possibilities.
An incredible and insightful look into the mystery that is the interior of the human body, weaving together yoga practice, science, mythology, anatomy and Chakra theory. I absolutely love the focus on the Chakras being around the nerve plexuses, physical structures inside the body and how they relate to yoga. This book made the subtle body and chakras more real and tangible for me, whereas many books on the subject focus on the mystical energy system and feel un-grounded and unrelatable to normal people and teaching a regular yoga class.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Chakras and the subtle body but feels the current popular knowledge on the subject is too philosophical (or difficult to relate to in a realistic sense). The insights in this books help connect lofty mystical theory, with the physical elements of the body and into the moving meditation that is your yoga practice.Would Highly Recommend.
As a beginner it's very informative but a bit over my head. I wish there were more illustrations. Some of the poses take 2 paragraphs to describe - a pic would help!
This was a wonderfully insightful book. I would say that it is most suited for those who already have some working background on the topics, it wasn't written for the very beginner of yoga. I read it to supplement my yoga teacher training. It is well organized and researched. And while it is not a long book nor a difficult read, I certainly took my time reading it (20 or so pages at a time) since there is just so much information per page (not a wasted word). Little makes the most fantastic connections over and over in this book.
I was truly blessed to study with Tias and his wife, Surya, at their studio in Santa Fe for three years. As my own yoga teaching career has grown, the wisdom they gave me has been a daily source of inspiration. I have often wished I could go back for a refresher, and after reading this book I feel as though I have. It is a true godsend. Tias manages to present deep spiritual and physical insight with good humor and easily understood symbology. He distills information from texts that are much more difficult to penetrate and combines it with his own invaluable observations. The result is both dense with data and highly accessible. Whether you are a seasoned instructor, a dedicated yogi, or a novice looking for a path to self-healing, this book is a must-read.
This is a very difficult read for the average non-yogi yoga practitioner. At least I found it so.
This book is filled with inner wisdom and knowledge expressed colorfully and poetically as Tias Little has the unique way of doing in his teachings. It is a guide into the depth of the energetic and physical body, mind and breath. I highly recommend this book for teachers and students of yoga who want to deepen their practice and understanding of alignment and awareness of body, mind, and spirit.
