Whilst someone who wanted to use designs to create...what? Wallpaper? The pattern on some toilet roll? Something on a headstone? Might find these useful, for the general artist, the images here are too small and too painfully detailed to use for much of anything else. If you attempt to enlarge them, they look like jumbled messy lines. I wasn't thrilled with this, which is sad, considering that Dover has so many unique and wonderful books out there. There are better books to be had that have similar, and yet more easily used images.
Everything I expected, would be nice if amazon or other source could show a actual page not just front and back covers.
It's DOVER. Come on. If you are an artist who has to do a lot of different things, thank goodness there is a publishing house that can touch on every genre you may need.
The designs are so detailed that I find myself staring at them time and time again and each time I find additional hidden creatures, monsters, fauns and other decorative elements. This is ideal to have for inspiration on just about any project that calls for an old world touch.
I gave 5 stars as it is a very thin book, however, the quality of the images is above expectations. The book is thin, but the pages are packed with illustrations. In my opinion, it gives you more than what you pay for.
A recent interest in ornate design had me searching for copyright free resources. LOVE this book!
