There is a lot of huffing and puffing but no message about the rewards of a good work ethic. Instead, the wolf goes head first down the chimney, but lands tail first in the pot only to get up and leave with a good-bye. The watercolor cartoons in both titles are equally styleless. The story has a good cadence and lots of repetition. It's not too long and the pictures are cute. The book is easy to memorize so the pre-reader can pretend to read to his/her friends. My 4 year old's love it

This is a very simple version of the traditional three little pigs story. I read it to my 2-year-old, and she loves it! It's not too complicated for her, nor is the book too long, but it still gets the basic story across. The illustrations are also very cute! This is a great book because it will grow with her. When she is learning to read, we can revisit this book.

I found this slim biography engaging. I have read other biographies of Jerome Robbins but I found this read refreshing. Wendy Lesser knows her subject well and gives us a sympathetic view of this complex dancer, choreographer and director. As a lover of his choreography for New York City Ballet, of his collaboration with Leonard Bernstein on West Side Story, and of his great musical, Fiddler on the Roof, I found Lesser’s insights into Robbins’ creation of all these productions wonderful and accessible. Truly he was a genius who gave the world so much pleasure through his unforgettable creations. Lesser does not evade his complexities and difficulties in working with dancers and his collaborators, but she empathizes with his efforts to realize his creative vision. A very enjoyable read.

This is a wonderful book, written with a lot of humor and love. Mr. Allen rides with such clarity that you feel like you grew up with him and had shared and all the experiences he describes. Highly recommended!

Where We Lived is a delightful and honest memoir of Pulitzer-prize winner Henry Allen. Mr. Allen’s life is organized around a genealogy of houses, each with it’s own tchotchkes, smells, and memories. We read of grandparents who cavorted with presidents, as well as a relative, “… a slaver and gunrunner, [who] borrowed from enough townspeople that a mob stormed his mansion, ripping down the damask curtains and leaving it an empty shell after they’d learned by absconded to the Caribbean with their money.” And another, Captain Jim, “who may have been the biggest transporter of slaves in American history.” Equally captivating is the writing itself. Of one house that was sold, he writes, “I’m sure that tarpaper backwoods snowmobile New England has more than a few distant cousins of mine floating face down in the shallow end of the gene pool.” And to top it off, Henry dishes out the most delicious reflections. At the close of his chapter “Starting in 1557,” he muses, “Someday it will be our turn to evaporate like moon jellyfish stranded on a sunny beach. Only our memories or imaginations keep the past alive, and they do such a sloppy job of it.” In short, this book has it all: page-turning stories, well-crafted sentences, and the kind of reflections that make a memoir, well, memorable.

There are few writers of this century, last century, and possibly the next, who have the descriptive prowess of Henry Allen. This book, not a story or plot or tale or anything of the like, is simply a written memory. But it's no memoir, not in the standard sense. Most writers use their words to tell you what's happened, how it happened, where it happened, who it happened to. Those things exist within Where We Lived, but they're inconsequential. Instead, Henry Allen gives you the roots, the spine, the individual drops of life that make things so real, you have no choice but to live them in the fullest sense. His writing is that, sensory. Smells, tastes, sounds, feelings (physical and emotional), and all of them cut straight to the marrow of your body. Every word is chosen delicately, and the result is that there are phrases and - especially - similes within this book that will hit you so hard, you may have to pull away fro the page a moment and let out a sigh. Or a gasp. Or simply walk away because it felt too, too real. The best example of this is later in the book, where Henry Allen talks about summer houses.Good.Lord.He gets it perfectly. The tiny touches, like the most masterful brushstrokes, are practically unseen by the observer and yet they are necessary to create the illusion of reality. Henry Allen is truly a master of his genre, and this book is a culmination of years spent as a journalist, a poet, and an observer of the world.If any part of you has ever felt even a hint of nostalgia, of longing, of bittersweet memory, read this book.

Henry Allen took me on a journey back to my own childhood and the places we lived in Maine. By sharing with us his exquisitely written stories and a wry, razor-sharp sense of humor, Henry gave me a great gift with this book. He had me at "a parade of uniforms" when he described the contents of a relative's closet. I mean, who writes like THAT? Seconds after reading that description, I remembered the shed in our old Maine farmhouse where my father left his moldy clothes from Port Moresby several wars ago. And I cried. With Henry's warts and all descriptions of his relatives, I found the courage to look more carefully at my own. Henry understands the disease of alcoholism and has made the commitment to live sober. My thoughts on this are too hopeful and private to share in this review. So thank you Henry Allen for helping me demystify and debunk the "as told to" histories surrounding my marriage and my family. Gotta love this author!

I meant to just skim through this book when I first opened it until later, but ended up reading the majority of it instead. I've been a Soaper for well over 20 years and this book hit on all my pet peeves regarding other soap books. My biggest being that other books just throw you the recipes and equipment lists and give little to no warnings about safety or running the recipes through calculators. Can't say that for this one. The author lists what's needed and why, giving suggestions and advice and bits of personal experiences. This book has a personal touch and is pretty well put together. I've enjoyed reading through it and will be adding this to my recommended reading list for other new soapers. The links and video provided in the book are also a very nice helpful touch.

I am glad I got a good book. Worth the time I spent in reading.

I just loved this book. Hot and Cold process soap crafting by Molly Barrett is a foolproof guide to soap making, which include step-by-step how to make soap and choose essences. I have done some research into soap making and it seemed the more I research more confused I got. I am happy to say that this book cleared most of my confusion and I am ready to get started. I would recommend to everybody who loves soap making and also the ones who wants to start but don't know how to.

I'm someone who loves to work from the ground up when I can, so for something like this, I was in DIY heaven. Inspired by the film Fight Club, I had the best time reading through this extremely informative guide, and if I could post pictures of my results, but my girl took them all and I can't get a hold of her. A must for all you do-ers like me out there!
